Black History Month Social Media Campaigns
I started social media campaigns celebrating the different social months, which have had a trickle effect within the school over the years. Year after year now, different departments at the School of Business have started to more intentionally acknowledge the different cultural months within their event themes, resulting in a more variety of content we can share on social media year after year. Here’s a look at how our Black History Month campaign evolved over the years:
2020: Instagram only
We asked current students and staff what Black History Month meant to them, and created Instagram videos with an unique boarder for it to attract attention and be easily identifiable on our feed year after year.
2021: Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter
This year we had an exciting opportunity to promote a scholarship fund for first generation black students during Black History Month. In order to create awareness and support we used LinkedIn and Facebook to share more information with other potential donors and alumni. On Instagram, we focused on highlighting Black Owned Businesses around the VCU campus, as well as doing spotlights on black alumni. Below are a few examples of the month long content.

2022: Instagram And LinkedIn
This year I optimized our campaign content by focusing on a theme, black entrepreneurs, and utilizing our most popular platforms to optimize engagement and exposure. LinkedIn allowed us to go in-depth in our interviews and share content with our business community at large, whereas Instagram allowed us to reach our younger audience.
